Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee named Joseph A. Alutto executive vice president and provost of Ohio State at a meeting of the University Senate, Thursday.
Alutto has been serving as the interim provost since Barbara R. Snyder left to become president of Case Western Reserve University on July 1. Alutto also served as the interim president from July 1 to Sept. 30.
"I feel very strongly about the match that we have made," Gee said to the Senate as he made the announcement. He went on to praise Alutto's leadership as the dean of the Fisher College of Business since 1991. "His leadership has launched it literally into the front ranks of colleges of business in this country," he said.
"You never go into a job on a temporary basis, you do the things that are necessary, and that's what I did," Alutto said.
